"The Personal Assistance Scheme was set up at UCE in 1994. In 2000
it was expanded into the Universities of Aston and Birmingham who now
share in the training and may also employ UCE support workers (and vice
versa). The Scheme aims to enable students with disabilities to compete
equally with their peers, and to participate fully in the student experience.
